FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf will look for a strong finish to the 2011 fall season, as it heads to DeLand, Fla. to take part in the Holiday Inn Express Hatter Classic, hosted by Stetson. The Eagles will play the opening 36 holes on Monday and follow with a final round on Tuesday at the Victoria Hills Golf Club.

"This tournament will be an important one for us. Not only does it send us into our off-season, but we are getting a look at some conference rivals,” said first-year head coach Sarah Trew. “I feel like as a team, we have made great strides during the fall and we still have our best golf ahead of us. This course is familiar to a few of our ladies and we’ve had some success here in the past and are looking to continue that solid play this week."

The Eagles will take to the course with a trio of Atlantic Sun Conference schools including Stetson, USC Upstate and Lipscomb. Other programs set to compete in the nine-team field include Seminole, FAU, Jacksonville, Daytona State and Bethune-Cookman.

It will mark the third time which FGCU has travelled to the two-day competition. The Eagles best finish came in their first trip to the competition in 2007, where they took third among the nine teams following a 311-310-310/931. Last season, the Green and Blue finished sixth among the nine schools with a score of 318-312-315/945.

Traveling to the event for the Green and Blue will be senior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University), junior Cassie Cleary (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Daytona State College), sophomore Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) and the freshmen duo of Kristin Swindell (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River HS) and Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS).

FGCU is coming off a ninth place finish at the 15-team 34th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational, hosted by FIU, in Fort Myers, Fla. The Eagles used opening rounds of 311 and 303 before submitting a score of 319 in the final round, to bring their tournament score to 933 at the competition. Haremza led the Green and Blue through the three-day event, placing in a tie for 13th individually.
