JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One round remains at the Courtyard Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. and the FGCU women’s golf team sits in sole possession of fourth place on the leaderboard heading into the final day of competition. Senior Fabienne Haremza (Wilderman, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) leads the four-member Eagles’ squad into Tuesday’s finale, holding a share of sixth place overall.

“Today’s conditions were a lot more difficult than yesterday. It was cool and there was more wind,” said first-year head coach Sarah Trew. “We managed a decent round but still left some shots out there. Tomorrow our team goal is to manage the course better. If we do that I have no doubt we will put up some low numbers.”

For the second straight round the Eagles combined for a score of 317, moving their two-day tournament score to 634 and climbing one spot into fourth place on the six-team leaderboard. Mercer continues to lead the field with a 607 (296-311), while host Jacksonville maintains second place with a 617 (306-311).

With a one-stroke improvement on her opening round 77, Haremza’s second round 76 led FGCU through day two of the event. Currently tied for first in total pars (26) among the 33 individuals, the Wilderman, South Africa product sits in a four-way tie for sixth with a two-round score of 153.

Freshman Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) and sophomore Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) also cracked the top 20 for the Eagles. With a two-day score of 76-81/157, Guoynes sits 11th, while Van Etten holds a split of 19th with a 83-78/161. Rounding out the Green and Blue scoring, freshman Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) supplied a 81-82/163, good for 25th overall.

Mercer’s Lacey Fears sits atop the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 71(-1)-73/144(E).

The final round of the 54-hole event resumes on Tuesday morning from the Hidden Hills Golf Club. Final results from the Courtyard Classic will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com.
