MIAMI, Fla. – The FGCU women’s golf team wrapped up the final round of play at the Hurricane Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, hosted by the University of Miami at the Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club in Miami, Fla. Sophomore Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) was the top finisher for the Green and Blue in the 85-player field.
Improving their team score by 11 strokes in Monday’s second round, the Eagles continued to lower their mark, shooting a 326 in Tuesday’s final round to place 15th with a three-round total of 338-327-326/991. After 54 holes, tournament host Miami (306-291-321/918) and No. 16 Ohio State (308-297-313/918) needed a two-hole playoff to determine the tournament title, and the Buckeyes outlasted the Hurricanes to earn the team trophy over the 16-team field.
Matching a team-low round of 76 in the finale, Van Etten finished in a share of 43rd on the leaderboard with a score of 85-79-76/240.
Also supplying a 76 on Tuesday, senior Fabienne Haremza (Wildermen, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) supplied a 79-93-76/248 to place in a share of 54th, alongside freshman Chelsea Guoynes’ (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) score of 85-76-87/248.
The four-member FGCU squad was rounded out by freshman Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS), who held a split of 74th with a three-round card of 89-79-87/255.
Topping the individual leaderboard, Georgia State’s Charlotte Lorentzen earned medalist honors with a 74-73-72/219.
FGCU will return to the course on Thursday, March 15 for the first 36 holes of the 54-hole Snowbird Invitational, hosted by Northern Illinois at the Pebble Creek Golf Club. Results and recaps from each day of the tournament will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com.
