Play Concludes for Women's Golf at UC Spring Invitational

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – As the UC Spring Invitational came to a close on Sunday afternoon at the Plantation Golf Resort in Crystal River, Fla., the FGCU women’s golf team finished in 15th on the leaderboard. Freshman Georgia Price (Winchester, England/Fort Myers HS) was the Eagles’ top finisher, placing in a share of 25th individually.

“Today was a much better day for us. We were positive, held our heads high and you could see the improvement in our games,” said first-year head coach Sarah Trew. “I am very proud of the way we bounced back today and moved up the leaderboard.”

Sitting in 11th following a 313 on Friday, the Eagles combined for a score of 330 in Saturday’s second round to move into 17th before bouncing back with a 315 on Sunday to finish 15th with a score of 958. Topping the field throughout the three days, FIU earned the team title with a score of 290-294-294/878.

Leading the Eagles into the final round, Price supplied her best round of the spring and the Eagles’ best round of the tournament on Sunday with a three-over 75, moving her up into a share of 25th on the 102-player leaderboard with a three-round total of 77-79-75/231. The Winchester, England product finished one-over in par three scoring and also ranked among the leaders in total birdies with six at the event.

Freshman Chelsea Guoynes (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central HS) finished in a share of 52nd with a score of 76-86-78/240, while sophomore Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) placed in a tie for 61st with a scorecard of 78-82-82/242. Also finishing the event with six total birdies, senior Fabienne Haremza (Wilderman, South Africa/Glenwood House/Lamar University) rounded out the scoring for the Green and Blue with a 82-83-80/245, tying for 68th overall.

Following an opening round 69 and back-to-back even-par rounds of 72, FIU’s Shelby Coyle earned medalist honors with a score of 213 (-3).

The Eagles return to the course on Saturday, March 31 as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to compete in a dual match with Jacksonville on the Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass. Results and recaps from the event will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com.
