FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s golf sophomore Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) was named to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Division I Scholar team late last week.
The Division I, II, and III teams are made up of 585 women’s collegiate golfers that met the cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 to qualify. A total of 12 student-athletes from the Atlantic Sun Conference earned the recognition.
“I am so proud of Megan,” said head coach Sarah Trew, who took over the program prior to the 2011-12 campaign. “Being named an Academic All-American is one of the highest honors you can receive and it requires total commitment in the classroom and on the golf course. Megan has set a standard for our team and I appreciate her hard work.”
In her two seasons with the Green and Blue, Van Etten has produced six top 20 finishes in 18 career events, highlighted by a 17th-place showing at the 2011 Atlantic Sun Championship. This past season, Van Etten finished with an 81.7 scoring average and contributed a counting score in 21 of 26 rounds.
