TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After three rounds of competition at Southwood Golf Course, the FGCU women’s golf team concluded the 2014 FSU Match Up with an 11th-place finish.

In the matchup rankings, in which FGCU was paired with Atlantic Sun opponennt Mercer University, the team finished in sixth place with a score of 1,143 through three rounds.  The matchup scores included both team’s top four finishers and their worst score.

As a unit, the Eagles finished behind a field of strong competition.  FGCU compiled a total score of 927 through three rounds (310-310-307) to finish just four strokes behind 10th-place finisher Kansas State, 34 strokes out of the top five and 56 strokes behind top finisher, South Carolina.

“This one stung a little today,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “We put ourselves in a great spot to beat some ranked teams and we just didn’t convert today.  Through most of our round we were in the top 10, but we gave away too many shots coming in.  We will work hard this week to improve before we leave for Charleston.”

Individually, Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) finished atop the team leaderboard with a three-round score of 224.  Price shaved two strokes off her second-round score to produce an even 72 in the final round and finish tied for 16th in the field.

Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus High School) shot a 78 in the third round to record a weekend score of 230 for 35th place, while Megan Van Etten (Trinity, Fla./J.W. Mitchell HS) cut one stroke off her second-round score to produce a 77 on Sunday.  Van Etten finished ranked 45th with a total score of 234.

Sara Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy) and Mei Khuan Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/S.M.K. Cochrane) rounded out the Eagles’ lineup with finished in 58th and 59th place.  Detlefsen carded a three-day score of 242, while Yong finished with a score of 246.

The Green and Blue will return to action on March 2 when they travel to Charleston, S.C. for the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.  The three-day event has previously featured over 30 teams.
