ORANGE PARK, Fla. – With the spring season in full swing, the FGCU women’s golf team will continue play this weekend at the Eagle Landing Invitational hosted by James Madison University at the Eagle Landing Golf Club near Jacksonville.
This three-day event is in its sixth year and includes 16 teams. The Landing Golf Club features a par-72 open links style course designed by Clyde Johnston. The course is laid out over 7,037 yards.
The 2014 field includes three Golf Stat top-100 teams in Georgia State, Morehead State and Western Carolina and will also pit the Eagles against Division I foes JMU, Delaware, Elon, Georgetown, Old Dominion, Richmond, Samford, Southern Illinois, Stephen F. Austin, Stetson, UNCG and Wofford. National Junior College Athletic Association member Daytona State also joins the field and currently tops the nation’s ranking among junior colleges.
The Eagles, who will be paired with Elon and Southern Illinois, will tee off at 8 a.m. on the tenth hole. The Green and Blue will play one round on each day from Friday to Sunday with an awards ceremony scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
FGCU comes off a top-half finish at the 2014 Kiawah Island Classic two weeks ago. Junior Georgia Price (Bude, England/Fort Myers High School) finished atop the team standings with an overall score of 231 and ranked 42nd among the tournament field. Briana Carlson (Inverness, Fla./Citrus High School) finished the tournament ranked 70th in the field of 190 players.
Last year’s Eagle Landing Invitational saw Campbell University earn the team crown, while hosts JMU finished in fourth place after three days of competition. Eight teams return to the invitational this year including Elon, Georgia State, JMU, Morehead State, Old Dominion, Samford, Stetson and Western Carolina.
