Women's Soccer Announces First Recruiting Class
FORT MYERS, Fla.- FGCU Women's Soccer head coach, Jim Blankenship, announced the first women's soccer recruiting class today. The class includes 17 players and will continue to grow. Soccerbuzz.com has ranked FGCU's first effort as the third best in the Atlantic Sun.
Jessica Belmonte, from Darien, Ill., is a four year starter at Hinsdale South High School. She was named All Conference in 2005 and 2006. Belmonte was named team captain following the 2006 season. Like most of these women she plays on a club team as she is part of the Chicago Fire Juniors. She will play a lot of defense for the Eagles this fall.
Katie Donnellan comes to FGCU with many accolades as she was All-Central Florida 1st Team, Seminole All-Conference Team 2005and 2006, Seminole All-County 1st team 2005 and 2006, and Michelle Akers All-Tournament team 2004 and 2005. She will play forward and midfield for the Eagles next year.
Kelli Haemmelmann, from St. Petersburg, Fla. will play outside midfield for FGCU next year. She was team captain of Lakewood H.S. soccer team during her junior and senior year. Haemmelmann was one of the leading scorers in Pinellas County and was named best all around player during her sophomore and junior year.
Danielle Hannon comes to FGCU out of Central Clearwater Catholic H.S. in Clearwater, Fla. She is a three year starting defender on the varsity team. Hannon plays both sweeper and stopper and will be a main cog for the Eagles defense in the years to come. She helped lead Clearwater Central High School to three straight state championships from 2004-2006.
Courtney Eppleman transfers to FGCU from Jacksonville and will be a junior. She was a key member of the team as a freshman, appearing in 17 matches while starting eight times. During her prep career, she was four-year letterwinner at Pinelands Regional High School for coach Dawn Dickton. She was tabbed Ocean County Player-of-the-Year by the Times Beacon and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior after leading the team in goals and assists.
Catherine Fuschetto is a graduate of Park Vista High School in Palm Beach, Fla. She was a three-time first team Palm Beach Post All-Area player. She had 19 goals and 20 assists, helping PBVS win their first district title.
Lindsay Haw is an Olympic Development Player (ODP) out of Martin County High School. She scored 37 goals during her senior season in which she was named Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers Player of the Year. She added 21 assists in helping Martin capture the district championship.
Kathleen Hunter like Hannon will be joining the Eagles from Clearwater Central Catholic H.S. Hunter is an exceptional goal scorer as she was named Clearwater Central Catholic H.S. 2006 offensive player of the year. She has seven years of club soccer experience for the Countryside Lightning Elite Team out of Clearwater. Hunter brings a 3.5 GPA to FGCU to go along with all her accomplishments on the field.
Anna Jokuty, also will arrive on FGCU campus from Calgary, Canada and Bishop Carroll Senior High School. She will bring 10 years of club soccer experience to FGCU. She will sure up the midfield position for the Eagles. Jokuty, is as strong in the classroom as on the field as she holds a 3.73 GPA.
Kirsi Keenan, from Pope John Paul H.S. in Boca Raton, Fla., will be the Eagles first ever goalkeeper this fall. She was part of the State ODP championship team in 2003.
Michelle Kuhnen comes to FGCU from Eau Claire Memorial H.S., in Eau Claire, WI. She will play midfield and forward for FGCU this fall. Kuhnen was named all conference honorable mention in 2006 and was part of the 2005 state finalist team. She was also a letter winner in tennis as she was a state semifinalist during her senior year.
Caytlen MacKenzie out of Calgary, Canada will play midfield for the Eagles this fall. She was named to the Alberta Soccer Association, U16 Provincial All Star Team. MacKenzie is exceptional athlete as she was a letter winner in volleyball, basketball, track and cross country while in high school.
Amber McCall was a three-year member of the Region III ODP team and named MVP of Europe Trip in 2000. She was also state ODP team captain from 1999-2002. While in high school, she was a four-time captain and MVP. During her senior season, she scored 20 goals and was named team MVP. McCall is a native of Fort Myers and originally signed with Florida State out of high school. She will be a sophomore for the Eagles next season.
Kayley McMillan from Centennial High School in Calgary, Canada is very athletic and quick as she plays right outside midfield. She was part of the 2005 Centennial H.S. city champs. McMillan has played with one of the best club teams out of Canada, the SWU Storm 89's for the last two years.
Heather Mosher spent her prep years at West Boca Raton High School and will compete to become the Eagles goalkeeper next season. As a senior, she helped lead West Boca to the District 14-5A championship. She will be a sophomore at FGCU next season.
Kelly Sherrif will join the Eagles via Douglas H.S. in Parkland, Fla. She plays a variety of different positions but is best suited for outside mid. She is also an exceptional student as she carries a 3.5 GPA at her time at Douglas H.S.
At Hempfield Area Senior High School in Greensburg, Pa., Amanda Suchko was named to WPIAL All Section First Team, South Fayette Tournament Elite 11, and WPIAL scoring leader top 13 during her senior year. She will bring an amazing ability to score to the Eagles as she compiled 90 goals and 29 assists during her prep career at Hempfield.
