Eagles Take Ospreys in A-Sun Game of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University womens soccer scores five in the A-Sun game of the week to defeat North Florida, 5-0 at Hodges Stadium on Friday night. Five different Eagles score as they improve to 7-2-2, and the Ospreys fall to 5-8-1 on the season.

 

“I’m very pleased with our performance,” said head coach Jim Blankenship.” We came out after the rain delay with a lot of intensity. We moved the ball well and had some great saves; it was an all around good game.”

 

The first two Eagle goals came within two minutes of each other. The first Eagle goal came just 10 minutes into the game, Amber McCall (Fort Myers, Fla.) put in a header off a corner kick by Caytlan MacKenzie (Calgary Alberta, Canada). The second goal came in the 12th minute as Mackenzie would get one of her own after she put one in from the top of the box, assists by Olivia Elias (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Gina Petracco (Fort Myers, Fla.).

 

After one half of play the Eagles by led by two, and led in shots 5-4.

 

The Eagles put three more in the back of the net in the second half. Gina Petracco scored her third goal on the season on a shot that found the back of the net from 25 yards out, assist by Brianna McCall (Fort Myer, Fla.).

 

Freshman Sarah Fagler (Gainesville, Fla.) would score her first collegiate goal in the 78th minute. Lindsay Haw (Palm City, Fla.) sent a cross to Fagler who was waiting in front of an open net from seven yards away.

 

The Eagles final goal of the night came from Lindsay Haw. Stacey Payne (Coral Springs, Fla.) took the corner for the Eagles, Payne found Haw who headed it past the Osprey goalkeeper to find the net in the 87th minute.

 

Despite the Opreys outshooting the Eagles 13-9, freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla.) recorded seven saves to secure the Eagles sixth shutout of the season.

 

The Eagles continue conference play as they stay in Jacksonville to face Jacksonville University on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
