Eagles Play to a 1-1 Tie with the Lady Bison
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University womens soccer team tied Lipscomb, 1-1, after double over time on Friday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
For the third time this season, the Eagles tied at the FGCU Soccer Complex and move to 7-3-3, 2-1-3 A-Sun, and the Lady Bison now stand at 4-9-2, 2-4-1 A-Sun.
“I am very pleased with our performance,” said head coach Jim Blankenship.” We had some great opportunities inside the box but their keeper had some great saves, and kept them in the game. We played hard but just couldn’t put them away.”
The Eagles would find the net first in the 37th minute. Sophomore Amber McCall (Fort Myers, Fla.) scored her third goal of the season with assist by Lindsay Haw (Palm City, Fla.), and Olivia Elias (Coral Springs, Fla.).
The Lady Bison would respond just one minute later, Brandi Besheres (Manchester, Tenn.) sent a pass to Sarah Brummett (Atlanta, Ga.) for the sliding goal at the right post to tie the game at one.
The game remained tied after 90 minutes of play despite the Eagles controlling much of the match. The Eagles led in shots, 20-2, and in corner kicks, 13-0 after 90 minutes of play.
The Eagles dominated both overtimes and got the last look with just four seconds left in the second overtime. Lindsay Haw dribbled past a Lady Bison defender and got a great look from 15-yards out; Haw took the left footed shot that found the hands of the Lady Bison goalkeeper Katie Shelton.
In the match, the Eagles blasted 26 shots to the Lady Bison’s 2 shots, led in corner kicks 20-0, while Lady Bison goalkeeper Katie Shelton recorded nine saves in the tie.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday, October 19th, when they host Belmont in a conference match at noon at the FGCU Soccer Complex
