FGCU Has 52 Named to All-Academic Team
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast had 52 student-athletes named to the Atlantic Sun Conference's Fall All-Academic teams in a statement released by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
The FGCU had 36 student-athletes represented from four women's sports; soccer, cross-country, volleyball and basketball. Men's cross country, soccer, and basketball combined for 16 honored student-athletes. The women's soccer team had the most members earn academic honors with 14 while the men's cross-country team had 11 honorees.
In addition to the women's soccer team and their 15 honorees, the women’s basketball team had nine, volleyball had seven, and cross-country had five. On the men's side, in addition to the soccer team's seven honorees, the cross country team had five honorees and the basketball team had four players earn accolades.
In total, 682 student-athletes made the All-Academic teams, led by the 173 from the conference's women's soccer programs. To be named A-Sun All-Academic, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.0 grade point average or higher in the classroom during their semester of competition.
The A-Sun also announced that more than 54 percent of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball and volleyball players earned All-Academic status.
