GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer team fell to the ninth-ranked Florida Gators, 5-0, at James G. Pressly Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles move to 5-3 and the Gators improve to 5-2. The loss snaps FGCU’s three-game winning streak on the road.

“I am disappointed with the effort we showed today,” said head coach Jim Blankenship. “I know we can play better than that.”

Florida went ahead in the eighth minute of play as freshman forward Tessa Andujar recorded her second goal of the season. Freshman forward Jullian Graff was credited with the assist after finding Andujar who blasted home the goal.

Eight minutes later, junior midfielder Erika Tymrak scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0 Gators. Senior midfielder Tahnai Annis found Tymrak who scored from 10 yards out by beating senior goalkeeper Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla./Armwood HS).

In the 24th minute, Florida added another goal from freshman defender Lauren Silver. Silver scored her first goal of the year from 18 yards out after receiving a pass from freshman midfielder Annie Speese.

FGCU had its best chance in the 38th minute when junior Ashley Ciecielczyk’s (Oregon, Ohio./Clay HS) shot went just wide of the net.

The Gators would add one more goal before halftime as sophomore midfielder Caroline Triglia scored in the 43rd minute. Triglia blasted a shot from 15 yards out into the back of the net.

In the second half, the Gators would add one more on a goal by Lindsay Thompson in the 57th minute.

The Eagles had a couple of chances in the second half when freshman Dani Schulman (New Port Richey, Fla./Gulf HS) broke free with a shot in the 64th minute that was turned away by the Gators’ keeper Brooke Chancey.

In the last two minutes of the game FGCU had another opportunity when senior Amanda Goble (Lutz, Fla./Land O’Lakes HS) took a shot on goal but Chancey made the save.

Just 30 seconds later, senior Brianna McCall (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS) placed a shot on net but Chancey came away with the save.

Powers recorded six saves on the day, while the offense recorded seven shots.

FGCU will finish non-conference play against in-state foe UCF next weekend on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. in Orlando.
