FORT MYERS, Fla. – After earning a 1-0 victory against Stetson last weekend, the FGCU women’s soccer team heads to Mercer and Kennesaw State to continue A-Sun conference play this weekend. The showdown against the Bears in Macon, Ga. kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday, while Sunday’s match versus the Owls is slated for 1 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga.

FGCU (7-3-2, 2-0-1) is riding a 16-game conference unbeaten streak with a 13-0-3 record dating, back to October 2009. Only three teams have longer win streaks in the history of the A-Sun; UCF - 24 (1996-2000), FAU - 18 (2004-05) and Kennesaw State - 17 (2006-07).

The Green and Blue are receiving votes for the second time this year in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Southeast Region Rankings.

In the victory over Stetson, redshirt senior defender Kat Hunter (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic HS) placed a header into the back of the net for the game-winning goal in the 56th minute. Junior Brittany Burt (St. Petersburg, Fla./Northeast HS/USF) earned her second assist of the season after her corner kick set up Hunter’s goal.

Redshirt junior defender Ashley Ciesielczyk (Oregon, Ohio/Clay HS) continues to lead the A-Sun in assists with seven and is tied for 14th in the nation. Ciesielczyk also has had a part in helping the defense with six shutouts, including four straight.

The FGCU backline has posted a shutout in four straight games. Along with their unbeaten conference record, the Eagles haven’t allowed a goal in the last 422 minutes of play. Leading the defense, senior keeper Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla./Armwood HS) is second in the A-Sun in saves (61) and save percentage (.836). Powers sits in a share for first with six shutouts and has 25 in her career, which is tied for second all-time in the conference.

Mercer (7-5, 1-3 A-Sun) is currently on a three-game skid, coming off a 0-2 weekend against River City rivals, UNF (L, 4-0) and Jacksonville (L, 1-0, 2OT). The Bears have two of the top five active career scoring leaders in Olivia Tucker and Emerald Phillips. Tucker leads the team with seven goals, while Phillips has scored three. The Eagles lead the all-time series against the Bears with a 3-0-1 record, including a 1-0 victory last season in Fort Myers.

The Owls (5-6-1, 1-3 A-Sun) lost two straight games to conference foes Jacksonville (L, 1-0) and UNF (L, 1-0) last weekend. Kennesaw State welcomes Stetson on Friday night before they do battle with the Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m. Freshman midfielder Katrina Frost leads the A-Sun in points (20) and goals (10) to pace the Owls. FGCU leads the all-time series with a 2-1-1 record after defeating Kennesaw State 1-0 last year in Fort Myers.
