FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s soccer senior defender KC Correllus (Merritt Island, Fla./Satellite HS/Florida State) was named to the 2011 NSCAA All-Southeast Region team after leading the Eagles’ to their second straight A-Sun regular season title and first-ever A-Sun tournament championship.

Correllus made her way onto the All-Region second team with players from ACC foes Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina and Maryland.

“I am really proud that KC continues to get the recognition she deserves after a fantastic season for us anchoring our backline,” said head coach Jim Blankenship. “In three years for us, she has never missed a game and has played as hard as anyone I have ever coached. KC will go down as one of the best players in FGCU history and she will be missed next year.”

After helping FGCU to an impressive 7-1-1 record in conference play, Correllus was a unanimous selection to the A-Sun All-Conference first team. The native of Merritt Island, Fla. was the center defender in a backline who helped limit conference opponents to just one goal in league play and a program-best 12 shutouts, en route to the league title and automatic NCAA berth.

The All-Region accolade is the second of her career after earning first team honors last season. Correllus finishes her career as a three-time A-Sun All-Conference first team selection, A-Sun Player and Defensive player of the Year in 2010 and holds three FGCU records in minutes played (6502), games started (74) and games played (74).

The FGCU women’s soccer team ended the 2011 campaign with a program-best 14-5-2 overall record, while also claiming back-to-back A-Sun regular season titles and earning their first-ever A-Sun tournament championship. FGCU won the championship off a dramatic goal in double-overtime sending the Eagles into the NCAA Championship for the first time in the school’s history.
