Wacker Garners National and Conference Honors
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Shannen Wacker’s (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) five-goal performance this weekend has helped her be named to the Weekly National Team of the Week by TopDrawerSoccer.com and named National and Conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and the Atlantic Sun Conference.
This is the first time Wacker has earned National Team of the Week honors and been named National Player of the Week. This marks the second time this season, she has received Conference player of the week by both College Sports Madness and the A-Sun.
On Friday vs. Lipscomb, Wacker netted both goals in the 2-0 shutout of the Bisons. She followed that performance with a hat trick, including the game-winner, in a 6-0 win over Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon.
Since last Sunday’s game against ETSU, Wacker has scored seven goals in three games and has 10 goals on the season, including a program record five game-winners. With her hat trick Sunday, she is now tied for second all-time for goals in a season with Amber McCall (10), who did it back in 2007. Wacker is now only a goal behind the top spot (11) in that category, which was set by Lindsay Haw in 2007. She also currently ranks fourth in the team’s single-season record for points (21).
Wacker currently sits tied at 11th in the nation in total goals. As a team, the Eagles are ranked No. 47 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com Tournament 64 projection. She helped the Eagles improve to 9-2-2 and 4-0 in A-Sun action and leads the team in goals (10) and points (21).
FGCU will be back in action Friday, October 6, when it takes on North Florida in Jacksonville. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
