FORT MYERS, Fla. – After helping guide the FGCU women’s soccer team to its third straight Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title, freshman goalkeeper Brittany Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena HS) has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Conference Player of the Week.

This is third time Brown has won Defensive Player of the Week from the A-Sun and first time in her career she has received an award from College Sports Madness. Since becoming the starter in game three, Brown has helped FGCU go 11-2-3 over its last 16 games.

Brown made two saves and recorded her sixth shutout in the 1-0 victory over Kennesaw State on Friday night. Then against Mercer on Sunday, she made a season-high eight saves and tallied her seventh shutout in a 1-0 win.

Brown lowered her goals-against average (GAA) to 0.65, which is second-best in the A-Sun. She leads the A-Sun in shutouts (7), ranks second in save percentage (.863) and is fourth in total saves (69).

The Eagles won the regular season title with the best record in conference action (12-3-3, 7-1-1) and will host the A-Sun tournament semifinals (Nov. 2) and championship game (Nov. 4) at the FGCU Soccer Complex. FGCU will play the winner of the ETSU/Jacksonville matchup Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Since joining the A-Sun in 2007, the Eagles lead the league in conference wins (40), fewest conference losses (10) and most conference ties (9). In their last 30 A-Sun games, FGCU sports a 24-2-4 record with a 69-6 goal differential.

The Green and Blue are 17-0-3 in A-Sun home games dating back to 2009, including nine straight wins heading into the conference tournament. FGCU sits at No. 46 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com Tournament 64 projection released on Monday.
