FORT MYERS, Fla. – After improving their record to 12-3-3 last week, the Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team has been ranked 10th in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire Southeast Regional Ranking, announced Tuesday.

This marks the second time this season and also in program history that the Eagles have been ranked in the Southeast Regional poll. In the five-year history of the program, the Green and Blue have received votes on three occasions.

FGCU went 2-0 last week with wins over Kennesaw State and Mercer to claim the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title for the third straight year.

Sophomore Shannen Wacker (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) leads the team with 23 points and 10 goals this season. Senior defender Ashley Ciesielczyk (Oregon, Ohio/Clay HS) has tallied a team-high 10 assists in 18 games for the Eagles and is currently eighth in the nation in total assists.

Freshman keeper Brittany Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena HS) has started the last 16 games in goal for the Eagles, holding an 11-2-3 record on the season with a 0.65 goals-against average and has tallied seven shutouts.

Topping the Southeast Regional rankings is Florida State at 15-1-0. Wake Forest took the second spot with Maryland and North Carolina both tied for the third spot.

FGCU will be back in action Friday, Nov. 2nd when they play the winner of the ETSU/Jacksonville matchup in the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Since the Eagles won the regular season title, they will host both semifinal games Nov. 2nd as well as the championship game Nov. 4th at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
