Six @FGCU_WSoccer Players Named To Top Drawer Soccer's Top 20 in the A-Sun

FORT MYERS, Fla. – With the official start of the 2013 season just days away, Top Drawer Soccer released a ranking of the Top 20 players in the Atlantic Sun Conference, which includes FGCU women’s soccer players Ally Kasun, Brittany Brown, Shannen Wacker, Shea Rhoney, Tessa Berger and Emma Blackwell.

Leading the pack at No. 1 is sophomore Kasun (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield HS), who was recently named A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year. The midfielder, who started all 21 games last year, was second on the team in points and goals in her first season. Kasun had seven goals for the Eagles last season, including the game winning goal in overtime against Mercer in the A-Sun Tournament Championship.

Ranked No. 8 is goalkeeper Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena HS), who had nine shutouts in her rookie year, earning her a spot on the 2012 All-Atlantic Sun Freshman Team.

At No. 11 is junior Wacker (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS), who set the single-season record for game-winning goals (5) last year. A member of the 2012 A-Sun Conference First Team, Wacker scored a goal in each of the 2013 preseason matches.

Checking in at No. 15 is sophomore Rhoney (Lithia, Fla./Newsome HS). A member of both the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team and All-Freshman Team, Rhoney played in all 21 games and started 18 her freshman season.

No. 18 on the list is freshman Berger (Auckland, New Zealand/ Epsom Girls Grammar School), who started in both preseason matches this year.

Rounding out at No. 19 is sophomore Blackwell (Jenks, Okla./Jenks HS). A member of both the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team and A-Sun All-Freshman Team, Blackwell scored two goals, including the game-winner in a 2-1 victory against Wisconsin-Green Bay last August.

With a total of six, FGCU is more represented on the list than any other team in the conference.

The Eagles begin regular-season play on Friday as they travel to the University of Florida. They then land back at the FGCU Soccer Complex Sunday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. for their home opener against Albany
