Fort Myers, Fla., – The FGCU women’s soccer team dropped their first match 2-0 to Nova Southeastern on Saturday afternoon.
The match was originally scheduled to see two 40:00 minute halves, but the first stanza was cut eight minutes short due to lightning. FGCU battled Nova Southeastern evenly in the first half, outshooting the Sharks 3-2. Nova, coming off of the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament, was able to score a pair of goals in the second half. Lauren Prow scored the first goal of the match on a breakaway. Susie Lee added a second several minutes later.
FGCU starting keeper Emily Barrett (Chico, Calif.) recorded four saves while allowing one goal in the match. Kirsi Keenan (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded a save and allowed a goal in the second half. Nova outshot FGCU 11-4. FGCU had four corner kicks while Nova had just one. The Sharks committed nine fouls and had one yellow card while the Eagles committed just three fouls.
The Eagles open the season August 31 when they host Alabama State in the Embassy Suites Kick-Off Classic at 7:00 pm.
