McCall scored her seventh goal of the season in the 56th minute
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team outlast North Florida 1-0. The Eagles were outshot 16-14, but were able to put one in the net on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 8-5 (4-2 A-Sun), and the Ospreys fall to 4-9-1 (3-3 A-Sun).
The Ospreys outshot the Eagles 16-14, while also having the advantaged in shots on goal 5-4. UNF Goalkeeper Rachael Howard made three saves in the game, while freshman Kirsi Keenan (Boca Raton, Fla.) made five for the Eagles.
The teams were tied heading into the locker room at 0-0 after on half of play. Neither team having a distinct advantage over the other. The Eagles recorded seven shots, and the Ospreys had six shot of their own.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead just minutes into the second half after earning a penalty kick. The penalty kick was called in the 56th minute after a Florida Gulf Coast player went down inside the far corner of the 18-yard box. Sophomore Amber McCall (Fort Myers, Fla.) took the kick for the Eagles. McCall sent the penalty kick just past UNF goalkeeper Rachael Howard for her seventh goal of the season.
UNF continued to battle hard for the remainder of the second half, within the last 15 minutes the Ospreys sent six off shots but the Eagles were able to hold on.
The Eagles head to Nashville, Tennessee next week, as they take on Belmont on October 19th at 7:30pm.
