NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team (10-5, 6-2 A-Sun) used four goals to post a 4-0 win over A-Sun rival Lipscomb (3-11-1, 1-5-1 A-Sun) Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. This marked the third consecutive shutout and the eighth shutout of the season for the Eagles.

“This was a great weekend, we got ahead early and played great defense,” FGCU Head Coach Jim Blakenship said. “We had some really good goals, good services, good individual efforts, and played well as a team. This was a big weekend and we really stepped up.”

FGCU’s first goal of the match came from an Eagle scoring her second goal of the season. Freshman Kelly Sheriff (Coral Springs, Fla.) took the corner kick for the Eagles. Sheriff sent the ball in the box to classmate Kelli Haemmelmann (St.Petersburg, Fla.). Haemmelmann put the ball in off a hard eight-yard shot that went in untouched at the near post at 4:35 in the first half.

The second goal started when sophomore Amber McCall (Fort Myers, Fla.), deep in the Lady Bison’s half, crossed the ball to freshman Lindsay Haw (Palm City, Fla.) in the middle of the box. Haw put the short shot away at 22:55 to extend her season goals to 11. The assist was the fourth of McCall’s career as an Eagle.

The final goal of the opening half started after a Lady Bison foul. Sheriff took the penalty kick for the Eagles. Her right-footed shot just made it past Lipscomb goalkeeper Katie Shelton at 42:06 for her second goal of the season.

Early in the second half, Sheriff brought the ball through the Lady Bison box and crossed it from the right wing to the middle of the box. Haw sent the shot just left of the Lady Bison goalkeeper at 73:14. It was the third multi-goal match of Haw’s career. She also had two goals versus Alabama State and Delaware State earlier this season.

Next up, the Eagles return home to play host for a pair of A-Sun matches. The weekend of action at the FGCU Soccer Complex begins on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. with East Tennessee State (6-5-3, 2-4-1 A-Sun). Then FGCU plays host to USC Upstate (3-10, 1-6 A-Sun) on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
