FORT MYERS, Fla. - Missed opportunities were the downfall of a 1-0 loss the FGCU women’s soccer team suffered on Friday night to East Tennessee State University. With the loss the Eagles fall to 10-6 (6-3 A-Sun) while the Bucs improve to 8-5-3 (4-4-1 A-Sun).
Though the Eagles had many chances, including 11 shots and 12 corner kicks, they were unable to get any balls past ETSU freshman goalie Rachel Van Horn (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), who stopped 6 shots to record the shutout. “We didn’t capitalize on opportunities,” Head Coach Jim Blankenship said.
The lone goal of the match came in the 2nd half at 35:04 when sophomore Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) stripped an FGCU defender of the ball and drove in alone and got the ball past FGCU goalie Kirisi Keenan (Boca Raton, Fla.) to give the Bucs the lead for good.
The Eagles will be in action again on Sunday at 1:00 pm at the FGCU Soccer Complex when they face off against USC-Upstate.
