Scouting Stetson: Stetson has called on different people to help put the ball into the back of the net this season. Stetson has scored 29 goals and dished out 26assists this season for 84 total points. Sixteen different Hatters have recorded at least one point this year with nine scoring at least one goal. Sarah Stock leads the team in scoring with sixteen points on seven goals and two assist. Tessa Gavilsky is second on the team with twelve points, on four goals and a team leading four assist. Five different players have notched the game-winning goals for Stetson this year (Stock, Gavilsky, Spencer,Yero, and Hays).
In their last outing, Stetson controlled play, led East Tennessee State in shots 25-9, yet lost Sunday’s game 3-2. After an all-out charge forward early in the second overtime the Hatters just missed on a few opportunities to score. ETSU counter attacked with a long ball down the center. Stetson goalkeeper Andrea Garavaglia (Webster Groves, MO) was caught in between and chose to retreat rather than go after the ball but it was too late and the Buccaneers’ Terri Miller knocked in the golden goal.
Stetson opened the scoring at 55:46 with an unassisted goal by freshman Tessa Gavilsky. It was her fourth goal of the season placing her in a tie for second on the team with sophomore Emily Yero (Orlando, FL) and senior Jennifer Hays. Hays scored her fourth goal of the year at 83:09 with an assist going to Gavilsky. It was a perfectly placed long volley just over the goalkeepers hand and just under the crossbar. Gavilsky is now second on the team in scoring with 12 points.
