Boca Raton, Fla. – The FGCU Womens Soccer team defeated Indiana State 2-0 in the FIU Classic on Sunday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla. The Eagles improve to 2-1, and the Sycamores fall to 2-4 on the season.
With 16 minutes left in the first half, junior Amber McCall (Fort Myers, Fla.) was taken out just outside the box. Katie Donnellan (Lake Mary, Fla.) took the penalty kick for Eagles and found the back of the net to put the Eagles 1-0.
In the second half, the Eagles would add one more as Caytlan MacKenzie (Calgary Alberta, Canada) sent a cross to Casey Lasdemann (Flagler Beach, Fla.) in the box for a header to give the Eagles 2-0 lead that would stand.
The Eagles outshot the Sycamores 16 to 7, and ISU defenseman Alyssa Ramsey received a yellow card in the first half that led to the Eagles first goal of the day.
Freshman Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla.) recorded her first shutout in her young career; she had six saves and played all 90 minutes.
The Eagles will travel to Wingate, NC as they take on the Wingate University at 7:00pm on September 4th.
