FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer team has begun preparations for the 2009 season, the third campaign in program history. Members of the squad reported Sunday (Aug. 9) for meetings, physicals, and their first practice.

Head coach Jim Blankenship begins his third season at the helm of the Eagles, and welcomes back a total of 20 letterwinners, including 10 starters, from last year's team. The 2008 FGCU squad finished with an overall record of 10-4-3 and placed fourth in the A-Sun with a 5-2-3 league ledger.

This season, Blankenship and assistants Mario Rincon and Jessica Zabel have two seniors, eight juniors, 11 sophomores and six freshmen on the 27-player roster.

Fans can get their first look at the 2009 FGCU women’s soccer team on Sunday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. ET, when the Eagles will host Rollins College in exhibition action at the FGCU Soccer Complex.

The Blue and Green will open the 2009 season on Friday, August 21, with a match on the road at UCF. The home portion of the regular season commences almost two weeks later (Friday, September 4) with a 7:00 p.m. match against Tennessee-Martin.
