FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU Women’s Soccer team begins the 2009 season on the road in Orlando, Fla. to face UCF for the first time on Friday night at 6 p.m.

The Eagles capped off 2008 by going 10-4-3, and should be even better this season as the Eagles lost only one starter. The Eagles outscored opponents 32-14, and both keepers, Kirsi Keenan and Stephanie Powers, combined to post a goals-against average of 0.79 as four Eagles earned A-Sun honors.

The Eagles hold a 2-0 record in season-openers, and have outscored their opponents 13-2 to begin the season.

UCF finished the 2008 season with a 14-6-3 record, the Knights advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the second-straight year. UCF was nationally ranked during seven different weeks of the season, and from that team, they return eight of their 11 starters for 2009.

Dating back to UCF’s first year of competition in 1981, UCF holds a 16-11-1 record in season-openers.

After taking on the UCF, the Eagles travel south to face Miami and FIU before hosting the Embassy Suites Kick-Off Classic at the FGCU Soccer Complex on Sept. 4.
