Women's Soccer Travels South to Face Miami

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team (0-1) will travel east to face in-state foe Miami (0-1), Tuesday, Aug. 25 at UM's Cobb Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles fell to the UCF Knights in their season-opener on Friday night by a 2-0 score. Both UCF goals came in the second half, as they put up a total of 20 shots on the Eagles. FGCU recorded five shots, with Jessica Swartzentruber's the only one on goal. Stephanie Powers recorded a career and FGCU single game record eight saves on the night.

The Eagles come into Tuesday’s match with a 5-6 record against in-state opponents.

The Hurricanes faced the No. 8 Florida Gators in their season-opener on Friday night, falling by a 1-0 score. The match's lone goal came only three minutes after the break on an Ashlee Elliott header that was just out of the reach of Miami's Vikki Alonzo.

In the contest, Miami and the Gators both registered 14 shots. Junior Brittney Steinbruch led the way for UM with four shots. Junior Lauren Singer had four shots as well, with Paulellete Ricks-Chambers and Jesscia Wyble firing two apiece.

Tuesday's match-up will be the first overall meeting between the two teams, with each looking for its first victory of the 2009 season.
