FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s soccer team will participate in a community endeavor Saturday afternoon, March 27, hosting a soccer clinic for girls 14 and under at the FGCU Soccer Complex at 4 p.m. Following the clinic is a women’s soccer game against the University of Miami at 6 p.m. The event will culminate with an autograph session with both teams. The cost is $5.00 per person and tickets are on sale now.
FGCU finished the 2009 regular season, with a 6-2-2 record in conference play (11-5-3 overall), one point shy of first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Miami was ranked sixth in the southeast region and defeated North Carolina, the reigning NCAA champion, during regular season play. The matchup should make the even a fun filled competitive affair.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with the University of Miami for this event,” said head women’s soccer coach Jim Blankenship. “The clinic is offered to young female players in the community and is a great opportunity for thriving soccer players. We thank Power, Embassy Suites, and Ritas for supporting this project”
The clinic will be held at the FGCU Soccer Complex, located between Swanson Stadium and Alico Arena. For information and pre-registration or to set up a separate clinic with the FGCU women’s soccer team, contact Jim Blankenship at 239-590-7571. Walk-ups will also be accepted Saturday morning/afternoon.
