FORT MYERS, Fla. – After picking up votes in the regional rankings on Monday, the FGCU women’s team learned that it was picked 61st in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Tournament 64 rankings. The Eagles moved up one spot from its ranking last week.
The Tournament 64 rankings are a running attempt to project the postseason college soccer tournament qualifiers, including every automatic conference berth. For the fourth and final year, FGCU is not eligible for postseason play due to the four-year NCAA provisional period.
The Eagles enter the upcoming weekend on a five-game shutout streak and having allowed only one goal in conference play. Junior Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla./Armwood HS) is the main keeper and tops the conference with eight shutouts and 0.57 goals against average.
Senior Lindsay Haw (Palm City, Fla./Martin County HS) leads the offense with three goals and an assist on the season while sophomore Jessica Swartzentruber (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Christian) also has three goals on the year.
The Eagles are 8-4-2 on the season and sit in a third place with a 5-0-2 A-Sun mark, good for 17 points. FGCU is currently on an 10-game conference unbeaten streak (8-0-2) dating back to last year.
FGCU hosts Belmont (3-10, 2-5 A-Sun) and Lipscomb (4-11, 0-7 A-Sun) beginning on Friday. Game time against the Bruins is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, while the Bisons visit Fort Myers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
