FORT MYERS, Fla. – After helping guide the FGCU women’s soccer team to 0-0 draw against No. 15 UCF on Sunday, senior goalkeeper Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla./Armwood HS) has been named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, announced by the league office on Monday.
The weekly defensive accolade from the A-Sun is the fifth of Powers’ career.
Powers helped the Eagles earn a 0-0 draw in double-overtime against No. 15 UCF on Sunday in Orlando. She finished the game with six saves, including three on UCF’s leading goal scorer Tishia Powell. It was her third shutout of the season and 22nd career, which is good for seventh all-time in the A-Sun.
An A-Sun Preseason All-Conference choice, Powers has played every minute in net so far during the season for the Green and Blue. Through nine games, Powers is 5-3-1 with 46 saves and 1.27 goals against average. She is tied for first in the A-Sun in shutouts (3) and second in saves (46).
Powers and the Eagles will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. when they begin conference play against North Florida (4-5-1). FGCU finishes their two-game homestand with Jacksonville (4-4-1) on Sunday, Sept. 25. at 1 p.m.
