FORT MYERS, Fla. – Following an Atlantic Sun weekend sweep of USC Upstate and ETSU, seniors Olivia Elias (Coral Springs, Fla./American Heritage-Delray HS) has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week and KC Correllus (Merritt Island, Fla./Satellite HS/Florida State) has been honored as the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
The weekly defensive accolade is the second of Correllus’ career, while it’s the first A-Sun Player of the Week award for Elias. FGCU is 11-3-2 this season and holds first place in the Atlantic Sun with a 6-0-1 record.
Following senior night festivities against USC Upstate last Friday, Elias finished the game with a goal and two assists. Then against ETSU, who was previously unbeaten in conference, she tallied two goals, including the eventual game-winner in the first half to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 shutout victory.
The Coral Springs, Fla. native finished the weekend with nine points on three goals and three assists in the two victories. She is currently second on the team with five goals and third with 14 points on the season.
Remaining unbeaten in conference play, Correllus helped the Eagles earn back-to-back shutouts against USC Upstate (9-0) and ETSU (3-0) over the weekend. On Friday against Upstate, Correllus limited the Spartans to just three shots. She followed that performance by holding the A-Sun leader in goals Genna Petersen to zero shots and ETSU to just three shots in the contest.
The Merritt Island, Fla. native has played in every game this season at center back, limiting A-Sun opponents to zero goals in seven games. She has been a part of FGCU’s backline that has produced eight straight shutouts and hasn’t allowed a goal in 782 minutes.
FGCU will close out the A-Sun regular season next weekend when it heads to Nashville, Tenn. for a pair of games. The Eagles’ two-game road trip will begin on Friday, Oct. 21 at Lipscomb. Gametime is slated for 8 p.m. ET.
