The FGCU women's soccer team recently took time out of their busy schedules to assist the Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties in building a new house. The Eagles spent the day constructing the home and making sure the roof was secure on a new house in the community.

TopDrawerSoccer.com released its list of Atlantic Sun Conference Postseason Top 20 Players. The FGCU women’s soccer team landed a league-best five players on the list, led by redshirt senior defender Ashley Ciesielczyk (Oregon, Ohio/Clay HS), who came in at No. 2 overall.

After winning is second-straight Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship last weekend, the FGCU women’s soccer team (13-3-3, 7-1-1 A-Sun) will take on No. 10 Florida (17-4-1, 11-2 SEC) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, Friday at 3 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium. This is the second-straight year the Eagles have been matched up with the Gators in the opening round.

– Two second-half goals by North Florida helps the Osprey defeat FGCU’s women’s soccer team, 2-0, in Atlantic Sun Conference play Friday night. Carolina Lencina received a pass from Lauren Hopfensperger in the 64th minute and she was able to get past a defender and chip the shot over the goalkeeper’s head to the far post, for the first goal and the eventual game-winner. The Ospreys sealed the victory in the 85th minute when Hopfensperger beat the keeper from 35 yards out to give UNF a 2-0 lead.

A year after winning its first Atlantic Sun Tournament crown and second consecutive regular season title, the FGCU women’s soccer team was tabbed as the favorite to repeat as conference champs in the preseason coaches’ poll released on Wednesday afternoon by the league office. Senior Ashley Ciesielczyk (Oregon, Ohio/Clay HS) was named the A-Sun Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, marking the second straight year and FGCU student-athlete has won the award that began in 2011.
