FORT MYERS, Fla. - Leading 2-0 in the second half against Illinois State, the FGCU women’s soccer team surrendered a pair of goals in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw against Illinois State (2-0-2) in the final game of the 6th Annual Embassy Suites Classic on a rainy and windy Sunday morning at the FGCU Soccer Complex.

ISU’s (2-0-2) Rachel Tejada scored a pair of second-half goals in a seven-minute span to even the match. The 2-2 score would hold throughout the remainder of regulation and overtime.

Playing through rain and with a strong wind in their face, the Eagles took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from freshman Ally Kasun (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield HS) in the 13th minute. FGCU would go on take a 1-0 lead in to halftime, limiting ISU to only two shots while registering seven

The Green and Blue struck first in the second half, when junior Kayley Clay (Cape Coral, Fla./Bishop Verot HS/Lynn University) found freshman Shea Rhoney (Lithia, Fla./Newsome HS) in the 55th minute, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead with 35 minutes left in regulation.

Tejada netted a goal in the 63rd minute, converting a rebound from her own shot to bring Illinois State back within one. Then, in the 70th minute, after Rachel Bostick headed a free-kick off the crossbar, Tejada picked up the loose ball and beat keeper Brittany Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena HS) to even the match.

The Redbirds fired 12 shots compared to the Eagles' seven in the second half and two overtime periods, as both teams registered 14 shots overall.

Kasun, Rhoney, Brown, freshman Emma Blackwell (Jenks, Okla./Jenks HS) and sophomore Shannen Wacker (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) were selected to the all-tournament team. The Green and Blue won their first game of the tournament 2-1, Friday, over Green Bay, as head coach Jim Blankenship earned his 300th career victory.

The Eagles are next in action against FIU on Friday, Aug. 31, at the FGCU Soccer Complex. The game is set to kick-off at 7 p.m.
