FGCU Women’s Soccer to Host NCAA Selection Show Party

FORT MYERS, Fla. – With its second consecutive Atlantic Sun Championship in hand, the FGCU women’s soccer team will hold an NCAA Selection Show Party on Monday beginning at 4 p.m. at Naples Flatbread in the Miromar Outlets. The NCAA will announce its 2012 College Cup pairings and first round sites on NCAA.com at 4:30 p.m.
The Eagles will eagerly anticipate the start of the 4:30 p.m. Selection Show when their first round matchup is unveiled. FGCU earned the A-Sun’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, as freshman Ally Kasun (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield HS) scored the golden goal in the 93rd minute of overtime sending the FGCU bench onto the field.
With the win, FGCU (14-3-3) will enter its second straight NCAA Tournament with 14 wins, which matches the school record set last season. The Eagles are the also the first team to win two-straight A-Sun Tournament championships as the host since UCF did in 1998 and 1999.
The only unanimous choice to the A-Sun All-Conference first team, Kasun gained control of a loose ball of a blocked shot and ripped a right-footed blast from the middle of the 18 into the upper right corner for the golden goal at the 92:13 mark. Kasun was named the A-Sun Tournament MVP. All first round games of the 2011 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship tournament are scheduled to begin on Friday, Nov. 11 at on-campus sites. Check back with FGCUAtletics.com for first-round pairings, locations, and times.
