Eckerd Nips FGCU Women's Tennis

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Eckerd College won two of the three doubles matches and three straight singles matches to nip Florida Gulf Coast University 5-4 in women’s tennis play at the FGCU Tennis Complex Thursday afternoon. The teams split the six singles matches, but the Tritons picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to pull out the victory. Eckerd College improves to 3-0 while FGCU falls to 2-3. After Eckerd won two of the three doubles matches for a 2-1 lead, the Tritons sealed the win with wins at the first three singles positions. Senior Izabella Ciesinska (Mississauga, Ontario) at No. 4, senior Angie Mykieta (Bremen, Germany) at No. 5, and freshman Brett Kinley (Boynton Beach, FL) at No. 6 picked up singles wins for the Eagles. Ciesinska and freshman Maria Testa Maggiorini (Buenos Aires) teamed up for the lone doubles victory at the No. 3 position. FGCU travels to Florida Southern on Tuesday, February 22.
