FGCU Women's Tennis Beats Florida Tech

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s tennis team swept three doubles matches Sunday morning and went on to post an 8-1 win over Florida Tech at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches, then put the victory away by winning five of the six singles matches. FGCU improves to 12-8 while Florida Tech drops to 1-9.
Four players registered a pair of victories for the Eagles. Sophomore Jonalea Hileman and freshman Brett Kinley teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles and followed with straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Freshmen Lesley Anne Passolt and Maria Maggiorini won at No.1 doubles before Passolt went on for a win at No. 6 singles. Senior Angie Mykieta joined sophomore Lori Colby for a win at No. 3 doubles match and went on for a straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Florida Tech’s only win came at No. 1 singles, where Belen Pandre spoiled freshman Samantha Ruppert’s collegiate debut with a two-set victory.
FGCU hosts Barry University on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
