FGCU Women's Tennis Earns Top-25 National Ranking
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s tennis teams has been ranked among the top-25 programs in Division II in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Rankings. The Eagles are ranked 22nd, their highest ranking ever in Division II. FGCU finished the season 39th in the final 2005 spring rankings.
The Eagles head into the spring season after a promising fall. In addition to the lofty national ranking, the Eagles are ranked No. 6 in the Southeast Region.
Sophomore transfer Maria Braniecka advanced to the ITA Southeast Region singles quarterfinals and starts the spring ranked No. 48 nationally and No. 12 regionally. She and her doubles partner, sophomore Jonalea Hileman, are ranked No. 25 nationally and No. 6 in the region in doubles play.
Sophomore Maria Maggiorini and junior Krista Polulak are the No. 8 regionally ranked doubles tandem.
The Eagles open up their season on February 4 in a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Webber International at 11 a.m.
