Women's Tennis Shuts Out No. 21 Florida Southern
FORT MYERS, Fla. – All six players won two matches each as No. 28 Florida Gulf Coast University upended No. 21 Florida Southern 9-0 in women’s tennis action at the FGCU Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Eagles improve to 7-3 while the Mocs fall to 7-5.
Sophomores Maria Braniecka (Piotrowek, Poland) and Jonalea Hileman (Fort Worth, Texas) won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and then came through with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively. Sophomore Maria Maggiorini (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and junior Krista Polulak (Sarasota, Fla.) had similar success, teaming up for a win at No. 2 doubles and picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
Sophomores Lydia Diaz-Galindo (Seville, Spain) and Brett Kinley (Boynton Beach, Fla.) also collected a pair of victories in No. 4 and No. 6 singles as well as the No. 3 doubles position.
FGCU will host Saint Leo on Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
