Women's tennis ends season at 12-5

By Kathryn Hueber MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The No. 20 ranked FGCU women’s tennis team’s three-match winning streak ended with a 6-3 loss to No. 4 Barry University at the Buccaneer Tennis Center in Miami Shores on Sunday afternoon. Two Eagles players defeated their opponents in the No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches respectively. Sophomore Maria Braniecka (Piotrowek, Poland), who is ranked No. 49 in the country, upended the No. 22 ranked Greta Trotman in a grueling match that ended in a tie breaker of 10-3. Sophomore Jonalea Hileman (Fort Worth, Texas) was the other Eagles player to win a singles match, knocking off No. 33 Ana Maria Zuleta with a clean 6-3, 7-5 victory. Then Braniecka and Hileman teamed up in the No. 1 doubles match to wipe out the No. 17 ranked women’s team of Ana Maria Zuleta and Ildiko Csordas. The Eagles ended the regular season with a record of 12-5. They now await the NCAA Division II tournament selections.
