UCF Takes Care of Eagles, 6-1
|
ORLANDO, Fla. – The FGCU women’s tennis team is still looking for that elusive first victory of the season, after falling to UCF 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. Priscillia Villemond was the lone winner for the Eagles, as she defeated Elvira Serrot, 7-5, 6-1, at the #1 position. With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 0-4 on the season.
The Knights jumped on the Eagles in the doubles competition, winning all three matches by scores of 8-1, 8-3, and 8-1, to claim the doubles point. In singles play, Villemond was victorious for FGCU, but that was all for the Eagles. Eva Sambrano, playing at the #2 position, played a hard-fought match against nationally-ranked #70 Andrea Yacaman, but eventually came up short, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6). In the #3-6 positions, UCF dominated the Eagles, winning all four matches without dropping a set, and only losing a combined nine games of the 57 played.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, as they will have their first home match of the season on Saturday morning against Northwestern State. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM.
