FGCU Women's Tennis Comes Up Short Against ETSU
Thursday, March 11, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s tennis team was defeated by the East Tennessee State Lady Bucs today, 6-1, at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles lone win came from Priscillia Villemond (Les Bordes, France) over Kelly Holtzhausen 6-4, 6-2, on court two. FGCU drops to 4-6, 2-3 in the A-Sun, while ETSU improves to 7-2, 3-0 in conference play.

The Lady Bucs opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches, and when singles play began, ETSU didn’t let up.

East Tennessee State won five of the six singles matches, with all five wins coming in straight sets. Villemond was the only winner for the Eagles, defeating Holtzhausen in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.

"We had some opportunities in doubles and came up short," said head coach Jennifer Gabou. "ETSU is a strong team that will do well in our conference this season."

The Eagles will be back in action Friday (March 12) when they host Furman University at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The match, which was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m., has been moved up to 9 a.m. due to anticipated inclement weather on Friday afternoon.
