FORT MYERS, Fla. – With a 6-1 handling of Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex, the FGCU women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches. After sweeping the opening doubles point, the Eagles went on to take five of the six singles contests on the afternoon.

Completing the match in less than two hours, Eagles pushed their record to 8-5 on the year, including a 4-3 mark in Atlantic Sun Conferences matches. The Blue and Green have also won three straight against A-Sun foes, defeating Mercer (March 12), 4-3, Belmont (March 17), 7-0, in addition to Lipscomb. Meanwhile, the Bisons dropped to 2-10 (1-4 A-Sun) on the year.

"We took care of business today,” said third-year head coach Jennifer Gabou. “Our doubles teams are really improving, and I'm looking forward to seeing the team compete again on Monday."

To take the opening doubles point, the Eagles won all three of the opening matches in the dual. In the No. 1 pairing, senior Iris Rendon (San Antonio, Texas/Tyler Junior College) and freshman Bettina Botha (Cape Town, South Africa/De Kuilen HS) defeated Lipscomb’s Kara Jackson and Alyssa Bellini, 8-3, and were followed with a victory by freshman Gyanna Mandic (Oshowa, Canada/Edison Academies) and sophomore Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) over Danielle Hansen and Elizabeth Keevil, 8-2, in the No. 2 spot. Rounding out the doubles sweep, sophomore Bibiana Almeida (Porto, Portugal/Schiller International School) and junior Jen Evans (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) took down Carlina Jow and Julieanne McMeen, 8-1, in the No. 3 contest.

Nearly completing the sweep of the dual match, the Blue and Green claimed five of the six individual competitions. Bechtel earned her second straight No. 1 singles victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jackson, and was followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 2 contest by Rendon against Keevil.

Also trumping their opponent, Evans, Almeida and Mandic each recorded singles wins. In the No. 4 spot, Evans turned away Hansen, 6-1, 6-3, and Almeida defeated Jow, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5. To close the scoring for the Eagles, Mandic was successful over McMeen, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 6 contest.
