LAS VEGAS, N.V. – The FGCU women’s tennis team finished Day One amid 100-degree autumn desert heat at the UNLV Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.

Sophomore Bettina Botha (Cape Town, South Africa/De Kuilen HS) fell in the round of 16 against No. 75 Caroline Rohde-Moe of Ole Miss, 6-1, 6-1. Botha earned a singles consolation match victory against Laura Bernard from Long Beach State, due to Bernard retiring with the match even at 5-5 in the first-set.

Junior Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) lost a tough three-set match, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, against Long Beach State’s Sarah Cantlay. Bechtel won the first set 7-5, before dropping the two remaining sets. The Tournament will continue tomorrow with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles, with the finals set for Sunday.
