FORT MYERS, Fla. – In its final home match of the 2013 dual match season, the FGCU women’s tennis team (10-5, 4-2 A-Sun) fell 5-2 in its dual match against ETSU at the FGCU Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.

“We showed a lot of fight today out there in singles and I am proud of the way our team competed until the end, said head coach Jennifer Gabou. “We certainly have our work cut out for ourselves before the tournament, but we have a few more matches to improve.”

ETSU remains perfect in A-Sun play with a 4-0 record in conference and a 9-4 overall record. The Bucs are now riding a five-match win streak after their victory over the Eagles. The Green and Blue have never defeated ETSU in the five all-time meetings between the two teams.

The Green and Blue were unable to seize the doubles point as the Bucs instead won the point after winning all three of the  doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead early on in the dual match.

Bettina Botha (Cape Town, South Africa/De Kuilen HS) won her singles match 6-4, 6-0 in a straight set sweep to secure the first dual match point of the afternoon for FGCU.

Once Elizabeth Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS) took her singles match at the No. 5 spot in straight sets, it was up to Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS) and Johanna Sterkel (Schwtzingen, Germany/Carl-Theodor-Schule HS) to decide the match with the Eagles trailing 3-2 in the dual match.

Sarah Means and Johanna Sterkel both entered the third set in their respective matches in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots with the dual match decision on the line. The duo were both unable to pull out victories in their singles matches as FGCU fell 5-2 to ETSU in the dual match.

FGCU will play its final three regular season dual matches away from the FGCU Tennis Complex, starting with a road match at UNF on Thursday, April 4 at 10 a.m.

Following the match, results and a recap from the dual match action will be available at www.FGCUATHLETICS.com.
