Women's Tennis loses to No. 8 Eckerd College

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The No. 28 Florida Gulf Coast University women’s tennis team lost to No. 8 Eckerd College 7-2 Tuesday in St. Petersburg. The Eagles drop to 5-3 on the year. Eckerd College came out and took a quick 3-0 lead in doubles play. The #1 doubles match went into extra play. Sophomore Maria Braniecka (Piotrowek, Poland) and junior Jonalea Hileman (Fort Worth, Texas) lost 10 to 5 in the extra set to Eckerd’s Julia Lima and Madora Mak. Both Eagles victories came in straight set tie-breakers. Sophomores Maria Maggiorini (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Brett Kinley (Boynton Beach, FL) both were successful in #2 and #6 singles respectively. #48 Braniecka lost a tough match to Eckerd’s #1 seed Madora Mak in three sets. Braniecka is now 4-4 on the season in singles play. FGCU will host Division I George Washington University Wednesday afternoon.
