FGCU Women's Tennis Ranked Fourth in NCAA Regional Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Tennis Committee has released the NCAA Division II women’s tennis ranking. Florida Gulf Coast University is ranked fourth in this week’s Southeast Region ranking. The regional ranking is the highest for FGCU in the two years it has been eligible for post-season play.
The Eagles, who concluded the regular season with a 12-5 dual match record, have posted the best single-season winning percentage (.705) in school history. FGCU has won seven of its last nine matches, including four wins over higher ranked opponents.
The top 10 teams in each of eight NCAA Division II regions are included in each regional ranking. Championship selections for the 64-team national championship tournament will take place Wednesday, April 26.
The regional tournaments are scheduled for May 4-6 at campus sites to be determined. In each region, the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams will host four teams each in a sub-regional. The Southeast Region has six of the top-20 ranked teams in Division II.
Lynn is first in the region, followed by Barry and Eckerd. The rest of the top eight ranked teams are Nova Southeastern, Rollins, Florida Southern and Presbyterian.
FGCU, which became a full-fledged member of the NCAA in 2004-05, is looking for its first NCAA tournament bid.
