Women's Tennis falls to Gardner-Webb 5-2

Fort Myers, Fla. – The Eagles Women’s Tennis team lost for the fourth straight match, 5-2 to the visiting Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb Saturday morning. The Eagles record drops to 1-5 on the year, 0-3 in A-Sun play, while the Bulldogs record improves to , in conference.

The Eagles earned the doubles point with wins from the #1 and #2 doubles pairs. FGCU’s Maria Braniecka & Jordan Vaughn defeated GWU’s Laura Kriett & Rita Gouveia 8-0 at the #1 position and Maria Maggorini & Lauren Pfieffer coasted past Jenny Gomez & Amy Beavers 8-1 at #2. Monica Walser & Allie Mills won the #3 doubles match for Gardner-Webb, defeating Brett Kinley & Leah Johnson 8-4.

In singles play Gardner-Webb dominated winning 5 of the 6 matches. Maria Maggiorini (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was the lone winner for FGCU, defeating Jenny Gomez (Rincon, Ga.) in a tight match 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 at the #2 position.

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex taking on Villanova at 3 PM.
