Women's Tennis Beats Belmont, 4-3

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Coming off of their first conference win of the season against Lipscomb 6-1 on Thursday the lady Eagles took to the courts today to battle against Belmont.  The Eagles lost the doubles point but Priscillia Villemond made quick work of Whitnie Warren on the number 1 court 6-1, 6-0 evening out the dual match score to 1-1.  Eva Sambrano clocked in the second win on court 2 against Tatiana Pozo 6-2, 6-2 while Lipscomb fought back on court 6 where Joanne Power lost to Lauren Irick 6-3, 6-3.


With the score at 2-2 the Eagles lost at position 3 but then picked up a win on court 4 with Leah Johnson winning against Abbey Hogan 6-4, 6-4.  The score tied at 3-3 it all came down to freshmen Heather St. John's court.  Already down by a set St. John dug deep to win the second set 6-4 and managed to pull out a nail biting victory over Belmont's Lindsay Bennett 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.  "The team really helped me get through it" said St. John.  "This was a good team win today."


FGCU hits the road for a pair of A-Sun matches next weekend, at Mercer on Friday and at Kennesaw State on Saturday.
