After enjoying the most successful season since joining the Atlantic Sun, three FGCU women's tennis players were awarded with postseason accolades. The doubles team of Katharine Evans and Jessica Sweeting earned Second Team All-Atlantic Sun honors, and Morgan Bechtel was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team.

The FGCU women's team concluded the 2010 season with a 6-1 loss at USC Upstate on Saturday morning in Spartanburg, S.C. Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio) picked up the lone point for the Eagles, winning a three-set match at number six singles. The Eagles finish the season with a 9-9 record, 6-4 in conference play.

The FGCU women's tennis team won their fourth consecutive match on Thursday, defeating Campbell 5-2 in Buies Creek, N.C. With the win, the Eagles improve to 9-8 overall, 6-3 in the A-Sun, while Campbell falls to 11-7, 5-3 in the conference.

In January, the FGCU women's tennis team mulched the playground at IMPACT in Fort Myers, and promised to return. This past Friday (Mar. 26), the Eagles fulfilled that promise, returning to IMPACT to play. IMPACT is a private, not for profit organization, focused on the advancement of children ages birth to five who are considered at risk due to a variety of delays or conditions that could impair their early childhood development.

The FGCU women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day by sweeping Mercer, 7-0, at the FGCU Tennis Complex. With the win, the Eagles even their overall record at 8-8 and improve to 5-3 in A-Sun matches. Over their last three dual matches, the Blue and Green have won 20 out of a possible 21 points, dropping just one singles match.

FGCU's Priscillia Villemond gathered her first Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Player of the Week award, the conference office announced Wednesday. Villemond recorded victories in No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles and defeated the number one singles player for No. 54 Mississippi State.

The FGCU women's tennis team soundly defeated Belmont, 6-1, on Saturday morning in Nashville, Tenn. With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in A-Sun play. The seven overall wins are more than FGCU had last season, and the four conference victories are the most that FGCU has had in its three years in the A-Sun.

The FGCU women's tennis team made quick work of the Lipscomb Bisons today, winning 7-0 in Nashville, Tenn. With the win the Blue and Green improve to 6-8, 3-3 in the A-Sun. The Eagles won the doubles point and dominated in singles, picking up all six singles points.

The FGCU women's tennis team was defeated by the East Tennessee State Lady Bucs today, 6-1, at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles lone win came from Priscillia Villemond over Kelly Holtzhausen 6-4, 6-2, on court two. FGCU drops to 4-6, 2-3 in the A-Sun, while ETSU improves to 7-2, 3-0 in conference play.

The FGCU men's and women's tennis matches against East Tennessee State that were originally scheduled for Thursday, March 11, have both been moved to Wednesday, March 10. The change was prompted due to anticipated inclement weather in the Fort Myers area on Thursday.

On Saturday, January 24th, the FGCU women's tennis team spent three hours spreading over half a ton of mulch at IMPACT, a special needs school in Fort Myers. This is the latest in a series of acts of community service for the team, which has become a monthly tradition ever since Jennifer Gabou took over as head coach in July 2008.

This is the latest in a series of acts of community service for the team, which has become a monthly tradition ever since Jennifer Gabou took over as head coach in July 2008.

FGCU women's tennis head coach Jennifer Gabou announced that Gyanna Mandic has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Florida Gulf Coast University next fall and play for the 2010-11 Eagle tennis team. Hailing from Canada, Mandic is a senior at Edison High School in Bradenton, Florida, and is ranked in the top 100 in the United States.

Priscillia Villemond won a pair of matches Saturday, advancing to the quarterfinals in the consolation draw at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Southeast Championships, being held at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. Farah Leclercq fell in the first round of the consolation draw.

Priscillia Villemond and Farah Leclercq were both knocked out of the main draw of the 2009 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championship. Both will now move on to the consolation draw, which begins play tomorrow. In doubles, the FGCU duo was ousted by a team from A-Sun rival Stetson in the first round.

The 2009 ITA Southeast Regional Tournaments get underway today, and four FGCU athletes will be participating. Thibaud Aime and Matthew Rock will be in Athens, Georgia, for the men's tournament, and Priscillia Villemond and Farah Leclercq will be in Atlanta, Georgia for the women's tournament.

This past weekend the FGCU women's tennis team took advantage of a weekend without any competition on the tennis courts and spent a few hours on Saturday helping out at Special Equestrians in Fort Myers. Special Equestrians, Inc. is a horseback riding program which provides therapeutic riding to mentally and physically challenged children and adults.

The ITA has announced the participants for the 2009 ITA Regional tournaments, and two FGCU Eagles have been selected to play in the ITA Southeast Regional tournament. Senior Priscillia Villemond was selected for the main draw while freshman Farah Leclercq will compete in the qualifying tournament.

After a competitive weekend of play, freshmen Morgan Bechtel took home the Group F Title at the FGCU Fall Classic. The freshmen had notable wins over Stetson Senior Katherine Nowicki 6-3, 6-3 as well as Armstrong's Alisa Kagukina 6-2, 6-0.

The Eagles women's tennis team completed the second annual Eagle SOAR on Saturday, September 12th. The Eagle SOAR is a super-sprint triathlon consisting of a 6.25 mile bike, 1.5 mile run, and 0.25 mile swim. The theme of this event was “8 Miles of Heart.”
