FORT MYERS, Fla. –Morgan Bechtel and Iris Rendon will be the newest members of the FGCU women's tennis program, head coach Jennifer Gabou announced.
“With our top four players returning from last year and four new players joining us this August, I am excited about the season ahead of us,” said coach Gabou.
Bechtel, an Ottawa Hills, Ohio native, will be an incoming freshman for the Eagles this fall. The standout at St. Ursula Academy was a First Team All-Ohio and All-City (Toledo) selection, the District Doubles Champion in fall of 2008, finished third in doubles at the Ohio State Division-I Championships in the fall of 2008, and was ranked top-100 in the Midwest Girls' 18’s.
“Morgan is a flat out athlete,” said Gabou. “She played multiple sports in high school and I look forward to seeing her grow her game in our system.”
Rendon, a transfer from Tyler Junior College, finished the 2009 season ranked #11 in the nation. The San Antonio, Texas native posted a 7-7 singles mark at the #1 position and joins former TJC player and last year’s #1 Priscillia Villemond (Les Bordes, France) on the Eagles.
“Iris brings a tremendous amount of experience from playing #1 at Tyler JC,” said Gabou. “I believe that she will be able to really challenge our returners near the top of our lineup and will be a great asset to our team.”
Rendon and Bechtel join Farah Leclercq and Melissa Narzissenfeld as newcomers for the Eagles.
